Job summary

Baxter in Thetford is seeking an experienced Software & Automation Engineer to join the site and drive automation initiatives across manufacturing processes.

You will manage system automation projects, provide technical leadership on control systems, and collaborate with maintenance to ensure safe, compliant, and high-performance operations.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of PLC operation and hardware/software.
• Experience with electrical schematics and circuitry.
• Experience with electrical panel wiring and device configuration.
• Experience in TCP/IP, Serial, fibre, and automation integration.
• Experience in manufacturing automation, robotics, and servo motion control.
• Experience with SCADA, PCS, HMI, DCS in validated environments including CSV.
• Experience with agile software development and IT troubleshooting.
• Data acquisition and presentation from machine to enterprise level.
• Database design and management with SQL and Oracle.

Responsibilities

• Manage system automation and control projects to capital management, schedule compliance and handover criteria.
• Provide technical expertise on engineering and process improvement projects.
• Develop technical specifications for automation, instrumentation and process control.
• Manage change and software best practices for site automation equipment.
• Support maintenance in resolution of control and instrumentation issues.

What you’ll be doing

• Manage system automation and control projects to the highest standard of capital management, schedule compliance and system handover criteria.
• Provide technical expertise on key engineering projects and process improvement projects.
• Develop technical specifications in the area of automation, instrumentation and process control.
• Management of change and software best practices for all site automation equipment.
• Support maintenance in resolution of control and instrumentation issues where necessary.
• Manage automation data; acquisition, management, storage, and presentation from machine to enterprise level.

What we’re looking for

• High degree of competency in PLC operation and philosophy, hardware and software
• Experience with electrical schematics, electronic circuitry, control loops
• Experience with electrical panel wiring, device configuration and integration
• Experience in communications protocols such as TCP/IP, Serial, fibre and integration into automation systems
• Experience within manufacturing automation, robotics and servo motion control
• Experience in the area of SCADA, Process Control Systems (PCS), HMI & Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
• Experience of working in a highly validated environment with working experience and or qualifications in Computer System Validation (CSV) and Computer Systems regulatory compliance
• Experience of software working in an agile environment
• Competency in IT hard/ware/software troubleshooting and repair
• Experience of automation data acquisition, management, storage and presentation from machine to enterprise level
• Experience with database management and design; SQL, Oracle.
