Job summary

The University of Surrey is seeking a technically skilled individual to provide essential support for research and teaching in the School of Mathematics and Physics. You will help operate, maintain and develop Soft Matter Physics facilities, collaborating with academics and technicians to deliver an excellent student experience.

Applicants should have physics lab experience, strong communication, good organisational skills, and the ability to handle chemical/biological agents and cryogens, with

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a physics laboratory or relevant similar experience.
• A good communicator, working well as part of a team but also able to work independently, managing their own time and priorities.
• An understanding of relevant Health & Safety matters and requirements.
• Good organisational skills, particularly when working in a laboratory.
• Some experience of handling chemical and biological agents.
• Some experience of handling cryogens and gases.
• Willingness and aptitude to broaden skills to cover for technical colleagues in their specialist areas during periods of absence.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential technical support for research and teaching in the School of Mathematics and Physics.
• Assist in operation, maintenance and development of facilities in the Soft Matter Physics laboratories.
• Collaborate with academic and technical colleagues to deliver an exceptional experience for students.
