Job summary

Middlesbrough Children’s Services invites applications for a Social Worker in the Safeguarding and Care Planning Service. You will build meaningful relationships with children and families, assess risks, and create plans that lead to lasting change while maintaining safeguarding focus.

You will receive monthly reflective supervision, daily support from experienced managers, and work within a supportive, collaborative team culture that values innovation and professional curiosity.

Responsibilities

• Completing Child and Family Assessments.
• Undertaking parenting and viability assessments.
• Working closely with fostering and permanence services.
• Leading Section 47 enquiries.
• Preparing and presenting reports for Child Protection Conferences and other multi-agency forums.
• Direct work with children to ensure their voices influence planning and decision‑making.
• Collaborating with partner agencies to develop timely safety plans.
• Supporting children and families through Child Protection and Child in Need processes.
• Contributing to Public Law Outline processes and court-related work where required.
• Developing robust care plans that create safety, stability and permanence.
• Making evidence-based recommendations on step-down, transfer or closure when risks reduce.
