Permanent role with a Local Authority Job Summary:
• This role offers the opportunity to work as a qualified Mental Health Social Worker or Senior Practitioner (AMHP), delivering high-quality social care services to adults experiencing mental health difficulties.
• The post holder will work within an integrated health and social care team, managing a caseload of complex cases, carrying out statutory duties, and supporting people to improve wellbeing, independence, and recovery.
• The position involves strong partnership working with internal teams and external organisations including health providers, carers, and service users.
• There is scope for career development through structured progression and involvement in mentoring or supervisory responsibilities.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Manage a caseload of service users and carers with complex mental health needs.
• Undertake statutory responsibilities under the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Conduct assessments, develop outcome-based support plans, and carry out reviews and reassessments.
• Work collaboratively with health professionals and other partners to deliver an integrated, person-centred approach.
• Participate in and contribute to safeguarding investigations concerning adults and children, ensuring timely actions and referrals.
• Provide professional supervision, mentorship and practice education for colleagues, students, and trainee AMHPs.
• Maintain high standards of documentation, data protection, and confidentiality across all workstreams.
• Contribute to service development, improvement initiatives, and uphold principles of equality, diversity, and customer service excellence.
• Participate in AMHP rota and undertake Mental Health Act assessments, if qualified.
• Support the implementation of recovery and reablement models to promote independence and reduce long-term service dependency.

• Proven ability to build effective relationships with service users, carers, and professional stakeholders.
• Strong communication, risk assessment, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and independently while contributing positively to team culture.
• Experience of safeguarding adults and/or children, ideally within a local authority or NHS setting.
• Familiarity with electronic case management systems and recording standards.
• This post supports professional development through supervision, practice education, and access to AMHP/BIA training opportunities.
• Flexibility is required for occasional work outside standard office hours.
• The role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and compliance with professional registration requirements.
• Progression to a senior grade is available upon achieving AMHP status and meeting defined performance criteria.
• Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to person-centred care, continuous learning, and multi-agency collaboration.
Additional Information: • Recognised professional qualification in Social Work (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent) and registration with the appropriate professional body.
• AMHP and/or BIA qualification desirable; willingness to train if not yet qualified.
