PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is an exceptional role supporting smaller caseloads of families, where there are concerns regarding a parent's ability to care for their child.

Managing small caseload numbers.

Placements of families are typically for 12 weeks and include a programme of teaching and assessment.

Families may have a range of needs, including but not limited to low self-esteem or confidence as parents, learning needs or disabilities, a history of domestic abuse, or substance misuse issues.

Aim

  1. Help parent(s) improve their self-esteem, confidence, skills, and behaviours to give children the best chance to stay in their parent's care.
  2. Provide robust and effective parenting assessments for decision-making by statutory bodies and courts, focusing on safeguarding.
  3. Build trusting and supportive relationships with families, placing relationship-based practice at the core.
  4. Develop, with families and professionals, clear, measurable plans and outcomes.
  5. Identify and address concerns promptly to facilitate positive changes and prioritize child protection.
  6. Deliver tailored parenting programmes (including workshops) and provide information, advice, and guidance to improve parental skills and confidence.
  7. Develop high-quality, evidence-based, multidisciplinary parenting assessments considering each parent's ability to meet their child's needs.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Social work qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Registration as a social worker with the Care Council for Wales.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to listen and communicate sensitively with service users.
  • Experience in child care and related fields.
  • Practical knowledge of the Children Acts, related guidance, and assessment frameworks for Children In Need and families.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Ability to utilize supervision positively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and promote multi-agency working.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
