Job Description

Help adults live safely and independently – and support better mental health across our borough

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we’re here to support people through some of life’s most difficult moments. As a Social Worker, you’ll be part of a close-knit, supportive team helping adults manage serious mental health challenges and access the care they need to live well.

Working Style

You’ll be based in the Borough for four days a week, and working from home one day, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives. You will be co-located with the health team, and spend time in the Town hall and other sites. You will bring a social work perspective to discussions and provide support and knowledge.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a role where you’ll make a real difference. You’ll carry out assessments under the Care Act and other key legislation, working with people and their carers to develop clear, personalised support plans – including personal budgets and crisis responses when needed. You’ll also support carers through their own assessments, making sure their needs are recognised too.

You’ll play a key role in safeguarding – sometimes leading on enquiries – and always keeping detailed records to make sure information is accurate and up to date.

You’ll be working closely with a range of professionals, from health teams to voluntary services, and you’ll have regular supervision to reflect on your work and keep growing in your practice.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be a qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England, and ideally already an AMHP – or willing to train to become one.

You’ll have experience working with adults with mental health needs, ideally in diverse communities, and feel confident applying legislation like the Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. You’ll also be someone who can stay calm under pressure, manage complex situations, and communicate clearly with service users, families, and professionals alike.

Most of all, you’ll bring empathy, professionalism and a belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, whatever their circumstances.

Why join us

You’ll be part of a friendly, experienced team that looks out for one another and values learning. Based in a well-resourced part of the borough, you’ll have access to great training, secondments, and the chance to develop into senior roles or specialist areas.

We offer a competitive salary, travel pass, and an AMHP retention bonus for those on the rota. Whether you’re newly qualified or experienced, you’ll be supported to grow and do your best work.
