Job description

St Margaret’s Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Social Worker with substantial safeguarding knowledge to join our Supportive care team. You will join us on apermanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of£37,338 - £40,888per annum.

This roleis based in Taunton and Yeovil and involves travel throughout Somerset to undertake community work, home visits, and meetings.

This is a full time role (37.5 hours) witha working pattern of 5 days a week. The post is hospice based with possibility of working at home one or two days a week.

What can you expect to be doing?
You will be joining an established and super supportive team with a collaborative working culture.

As our Social Worker, you will autonomously manage a complex case load of patients with a palliative, life limiting diagnosis. You will also support their families and carers.

Under the guidance of the Supportive Care Lead, your day-to-day work will include:

  • Working with the clinical teams to ensure the social and supportive care needs of all patients and families are assessed and where possible met.
  • Using your safeguarding knowledge and expertise to provide advice and guidance.
  • Providing expert safeguarding support to clinical staff, patients, families, and carers, ensuring the welfare of vulnerable adults and children.
  • Managing safeguarding concerns and promoting best practices.
  • Training and developing colleagues, including line managing the Social Work Assistant.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compassionate, patient-centred care

What qualifications and experience will you need?

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Master’s in Social Work (or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.

Experience:

  • Experience in safeguarding vulnerable adults and/or children within a health, hospice, or social care setting.
  • Knowledge of palliative care, end-of-life care, or related health and social care fields is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and guidance, including the Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989/2004, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Additional Requirements:

  • Full driving license required as travel is essential as the post is over both Taunton and Yeovil hospice sites.
  • Ability to travel locally to attend meetings and home visits as necessary.

If you are successful at interview, the offer will be subject to satisfactory criminal background check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
