Join to apply for the Social Worker role at Derbyshire County Council

Closing date: 25 May 2025

The High Peak North Adult Care Team are based in Glossop and we are seeking to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join our friendly, community-based team of Social Care Practitioners and Social Workers. The post is for 4 days a week, between Monday and Friday.

The team are highly supportive and operates on a largely agile, flexible basis across High Peak area of Derbyshire, utilising link worker and champion roles to carry out Care Act (2014) face-to-face and telephone assessments and reviews.

The right applicant will need to evidence high levels of autonomy and accountability with timely recording of interventions to progress overall case management. Applicants must ensure they can demonstrate the skills to build positive, professional links with others to work closely with our partner agencies, such as Health, Police, Housing and external agencies sectors.

The ability to identify signposting opportunities is necessary to support carers, maximise independence and individual wellbeing with a focus on promoting person-centred, strength-based outcomes.

At times the role requires Duty cover, it is necessary to be able to respond to changing situations, to effectively triage and assess incoming work to support Adults and their carers - who may require a more urgent response. It is vital to be able to evidence experience and skills to manage a complex caseload whilst meeting your statutory duties in a safe, accountable and cost-effective manner to meet Care Act (2014) eligible needs alongside local authority statutory duties of care.

It is an advantage to have experience of taking the lead on Section 42 Safeguarding, chairing multi agency meetings, such as Multi-Agency Adult Risk Management (MARM) and completing Mental Capacity Act (2005) assessments, including Best Interest meetings, COP-DOLs and court work - though support, training and experience will be available for the right candidate if you wish to develop your skills in these areas.

Derbyshire County Council is a fantastic place to work with friendly, supportive teams, access to training and a wealth of other benefits such as our flexi working scheme. You will work Monday to Friday and have a minimum of monthly 1:1 supervision and plenty of opportunities for informal support with both your team, peers and line manager. We promote an environment that encourages reflection, individual and organisational learning, where we value sharing knowledge, championing roles and helping each other thrive in our everyday practice as part of a holistic, learning culture.

Within the High Peak, we have the benefit from all the beauty Derbyshire has to offer with our spectacular views, countryside, and a real community spirit. We also are very fortunate to be close to our neighbouring Local Authorities for people wishing to commute, for example it would take around 20mins to drive to Stockport from our Glossop office.

Employees have access to a range of benefits and discounts including:

  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 25/27 days annual leave per year (rising to 30/32 days after 5 years continuous service) plus 8 bank holidays (pro rata). Grade dependant.
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Paid travel expenses if required to travel to other sites
  • Smarter travel scheme including access to the cycle to work scheme
  • Supportive management and team
  • Access to our in-house occupational health services which also includes free eye tests, physiotherapy and counselling
  • Derbyshire rewards - offering hundreds of discounts and cashback
