Job summary

Mears Group PLC is seeking a Multi-Skilled Operative in Gillingham to carry out responsive repairs across social housing properties. The role covers carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and decorating, in occupied homes, with a focus on quality, safety, and customer service.

You will work under a full-time permanent contract, driving a company van, and operating 42.5 hours per week (8-5, Monday to Friday). Salary up to £35,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance across multiple trades such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent customer service, with experience working in residents' homes.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work.
• Willingness to participate in out-of-hours emergency rota.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across social housing properties.
• Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames.
• Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors.
• Repair or replace internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges.
• Identify and fix minor plumbing issues (leaks, dripping taps, blocked sinks).
• Patch plastering and make good damaged walls or ceilings.
• Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing.
• Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repairs.
• Follow relevant safety and legal requirements (Awaab's law).
• Work in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents' needs and privacy.
• Participate in out-of-hours emergency repair rota as required.
• Report further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope.
