Job summary

Aston Charles is seeking an early-stage commercial underwriter to help shape product development and underwriting strategy in a fast-paced Welsh start-up based in Cardiff. You will underwrite SME risks across diverse sectors, support brokers and customers, and ensure decisions remain compliant with FCA rules and internal protocols.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within the SME market.
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial combined insurance.
• Tech-savvy and comfortable with bespoke systems and AI-driven tools.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial insurance risks across a range of SME products for clients in property, construction, retail, manufacturing and other sectors.
• Provide technical support to brokers and customers, ensuring profitable growth through sound underwriting decisions.
• Underwrite new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments, making decisions within your authority.
• Ensure all work complies with FCA regulations and in-house protocols.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Commercial Combined insurance and develop understanding of other lines such as Professional Indemnity.
