Job description

Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Where will you be working?

At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.

This role will be within our Metering team. You’ll join the leading provider of metering services in the UK energy retail sector, providing efficient and flexible services for gas, electricity and water meters.

Our meter readers install, maintain and manage meters to ensure customers are billed correctly and energy usage patterns are monitored.

What will you be doing?

As an engineer, you'll respond to emergency and maintenance appointments on behalf of EON, ensuring customers' Smart Meters are working correctly. If you enjoy working independently, chatting with customers, and meeting new people, this role is for you.

Customer service is our top priority. You'll complete all jobs on time and explain the benefits and safe usage of their new smart meter to customers. If you like meeting new people and making a difference, you'll find this role rewarding.

You'll be installing and removing smart meters (SMETS2) in customers' homes, completing around 5 jobs per day. There is an uncapped bonus for any additional jobs you complete.

You will travel around your area using your tablet to see your schedule, which is available up to 2 weeks in advance. Continuous training will be provided to develop your skills. 83% of our field management team have been promoted from technician roles, offering career longevity.

Health and safety are at the heart of everything we do. Your onboarding will prepare you to be a safety ambassador. Weekly meetings and field manager support ensure you are never alone. No two days are the same, with plenty of opportunities to excel.

What you’ll bring
  • Valid UK driving licence (held for at least 1 year with fewer than 6 points)
  • Experience with installing gas and electric smart meters, and relevant qualifications such as CCN1 / CMA1 / CMA3 with MET1, or NVQ Level 2 in Smart Metering Dual Fuel
  • Previous MOCOPA experience at a multi-rate level

Additional qualifications like REGT1, 3 phase, or registration on the EUSR portal are a plus but not required.

What’s in it for you?

We offer benefits including pension schemes, online GP, employee assistance, retail discounts, life assurance, cycle to work, enhanced leave, recognition schemes, and more.

This role also includes bonuses such as:

  • £1000 Safety Bonus annually
  • £1000 Attendance Bonus annually
  • Uncapped productivity bonuses
  • Additional pay for qualifications like 3-phase or Medium Pressure
  • Overtime at time and a half and double time on Sundays
  • Opportunities for promotion, with 87% of field managers promoted from engineer roles
  • Company vehicle and fuel card, discretionary bonuses, referral rewards, and holiday entitlement starting at 22 days plus bank holidays
