Job summary

GAP Group Limited in England is seeking a hands-on Tool Mechanic to service and repair a range of petrol and electrical tools, keeping equipment safe and ready for hire. You will diagnose faults, maintain service records, and support the depot team to maximise availability and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has proven mechanical experience, good attention to detail, and a proactive, customer-focused approach. A driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a mechanical role, preferably within tool hire or similar equipment rental.
• Experience servicing petrol and electrical tools is highly beneficial.
• Strong eye for detail and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Customer-focused mindset with collaborative team spirit.

The Role

Ready to get hands-on with industry-leading equipment and make a real impact?

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Tool Mechanic to join our high-performing Plant & Tool division. If you're passionate about machinery, thrive on solving problems, and want to be part of a business that's growing fast—this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

As a Tool Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our 2/4 stroke petrol tools and range of electrical tools, including saws, grinders and drills, hire-ready. You'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to go when our customers need it.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role offering real career progression in a company that invests in its people.

What You'll Be Doing

• Servicing and maintaining a wide range of small tool equipment within the GAP fleet
• Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
• Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards
• Supporting the depot team to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction

About You

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive approach, including:

• Proven experience working in a mechanical role - candidates out with the plant hire industry are welcomed as full training will be provided!
• Experience with petrol and electrical tools would be highly beneficial
• A keen eye for detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure
• A customer-focused mindset and a collaborative team spirit
• A full, valid driving licence is preferred but not essential
