Job summary

GAP Group Ltd. in the UK is seeking a hands-on Tool Mechanic to service, maintain and repair our fleet of small tool equipment and petrol/electrical tools. You will work in the busy Plant & Tool division, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and ready for hire to customers.

The role offers real hands-on impact, on-the-job training, and opportunities for progression within a family-run business with 50+ years of experience and national coverage.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working in a mechanical role.
  • Experience with petrol and electrical tools.
  • A keen eye for detail and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Full driving licence preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of small tool equipment within the GAP fleet.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Supporting the depot team to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction.

The Role

Ready to get hands-on with industry-leading equipment and make a real impact?

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Tool Mechanic to join our high-performing Plant & Tool division. If you're passionate about machinery, thrive on solving problems, and want to be part of a business that's growing fast - this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

As a Tool Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our 2/4 stroke petrol tools and range of electrical tools, including saws, grinders and drills, hire-ready. You'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to go when our customers need it.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role offering real career progression in a company that invests in its people.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of small tool equipment within the GAP fleet
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards

About You

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience working in a mechanical role - candidates out with the plant hire industry are welcomed as full training will be provided!
  • Experience with petrol and electrical tools would be highly beneficial
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A customer-focused mindset and a collaborative team spirit
  • A full, valid driving licence is preferred but not essential
