Job description

The Post holder will provide a high standard of care to patients, acting as a role model for the Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. It is expected that the individual will work closely alongside the Skin Cancer CNSs to support and deputise in their absence. The role includes providing psychological assessment, information, and advice to patients with a skin cancer diagnosis.

The Role Will Encompass The Ability To:

  1. Provide information and support to patients, families, and carers throughout the skin cancer pathway.
  2. Offer clinical support to senior nursing and medical staff in decisions regarding care and treatment plans.
  3. Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions and advocate for patients receiving care within the skin cancer service.
  4. Support patients through the psychological impact of treatments and body image changes.
  5. Work effectively as part of a team, liaising and communicating with nursing, medical, and multidisciplinary team members.
  6. Initiate and support evidence-based, innovative changes in line with national standards and reports related to Skin Cancer patients.
  7. Perform Holistic Needs Assessments with patients at various stages of their skin cancer journey.
  8. Recognize scope of practice to initiate appropriate consultations and referrals.
  9. Assess, implement, and evaluate programmes of physical, social, and emotional care for patients within the skin cancer service.
  10. Care for patients and families within the framework of the NMC code of conduct and departmental philosophy of care.
  11. Conduct thorough assessments of patient needs before and after appointments within the skin cancer service.
  12. Develop evidence-based care programmes based on patient assessments.
  13. Implement nursing actions as planned, evaluate their effects, and modify care plans as needed, working within departmental protocols and guidelines.
  14. Maintain sound communication with all multidisciplinary team members, including consulting with the Lead Consultant and CNS keyworker.
  15. Support team morale by demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment, and assisting colleagues as needed.
