Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic to undertake full repair, maintenance and servicing of vehicles for external customers. You will prepare Large Goods Vehicles and Light Vehicles to MOT standards, perform MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7, and assist with suitability testing for Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis, within a busy workshop.

Qualifications

• Qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic with experience in major GV repair.
• Experience preparing LGV/HGV for statutory MOT tests.
• Experience with MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and taxi suitability testing.

Responsibilities

• Repair and service external customers' vehicles to policy standards.
• Prepare LGV and HGV to pass MOT tests.
• Carry out MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and suitability testing for Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis.
• Improve and maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop facility.

Job description

Fleet Operations & Compliance is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our unique and dynamic team of highly motivated professionals who work collaboratively to ensure the operations comply with legislative requirements.

The department works to tight timescales, statutory deadlines and therefore experience of working within a highly pressured responsive service is a must. The Fleet & Workshop Team is undergoing rapid development towards a more business driven approach and is aiming to increase the services provided. The department plays an integral part of the Council's fleet operations ensuring legal compliance in all areas. This is an essential function to support the Council in providing the services to the residents of the city.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic who has experience in all the major elements of goods vehicle repair†s including engines, transmission, braking systems and suspension including a basic knowledge of vehicle electrics. Experience of Goods Vehicle MOT preparation is desirable. Must have the ability to work on a wide variety of vehicles and plant including HGV's, LGV's and Agricultural machines.
