Job summary

Site Supervisor/Lifting Technical Authority (LTA) - Peterhead

Employment Type: Full Time/Permanent
Location: Peterhead
Work Hours: 8-5 Monday - Friday

We are seeking an experienced Site Supervisor / Lifting Technical Authority to lead and coordinate the safe, efficient and commercially effective delivery of operations across our Peterhead quayside locations, including South Base, North Base and Pipe Yards.

The role will provide day-to-day operational leadership and supervision, coordinating people, contractors, equipment and resources to ensure activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with company procedures, customer requirements and relevant legislation.

A key focus will be maintaining high HSSEQ standards, promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring robust safe systems of work are implemented and continuously improved. The role will also provide technical leadership and expert advice on lifting activities, ensuring operations are planned and executed in accordance with LOLER, relevant legislation, industry best practice and company procedures.

Working closely with operational teams, customers and key stakeholders, the Site Supervisor / Lifting Technical Authority will support lifting planning, risk assessment and execution, while coaching and mentoring lifting personnel to promote competence, consistency and continual improvement. The role will also provide technical assurance and remote support where required, contributing to the ongoing development of lifting standards, procedures and operational performance.

The Site Supervisor / Lifting Technical Authority will build strong relationships with customers, contractors and stakeholders, providing visible leadership, effective problem-solving and operational oversight to support customer satisfaction and the continued success of the Aberdeen operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visible leadership and supervision across Peterhead operational locations.
  • Coordinate operational personnel, contractors and third parties, ensuring compliance with site rules and safe systems of work.
  • Oversee the efficient management and dispatch of offshore returned cargo in line with customer requirements and service levels.
  • Plan and coordinate resources, equipment and operational activities to meet customer and business objectives.
  • Ensure Permit to Work, lifting operations, traffic management and equipment compliance are effectively managed.
  • Provide technical leadership and authority for lifting operations, ensuring all lifting activities are planned, risk assessed and executed safely and in compliance with LOLER, relevant legislation, the ASCO Global Lifting Plan and company procedures.
  • Lead and assure lifting operations, including the review and approval/sign-off of lift plans and method statements, and provide technical oversight of LTA roles and personnel involved in lifting activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to Lifting Focal Points, Banksman/Slingers, Base Operatives and other personnel involved in lifting operations, promoting competence, consistency and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical assurance and support to operational teams, including remote support to isolated locations where required, and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of lifting standards, procedures and operational performance.
  • Oversee hired mobile cranes and lifting equipment, ensuring operators are suitably competent and certified, equipment is compliant and all required inspections and controls are in place prior to authorisation for work.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, documentation and performance information.
  • Resolve cargo, customs and compliance issues and minimise operational disruption.
  • Promote a strong HSSEQ culture, challenging unsafe acts and ensuring risks are effectively managed.
  • Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, interventions and workforce engagement.
  • Support incident response, investigations, corrective actions and reporting.
  • Ensure employees have the appropriate training, competence, information and supervision to work safely.
  • Lead and support teams, including performance management, return-to-work discussions, development and training.
  • Build effective relationships with customers, contractors and other stakeholders, resolving issues professionally.
  • Support audits, assurance activities, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide operational leadership and cover for the Base Manager when required.
Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)
  • Demonstrable operational management/supervisory experience within logistics, ports, marine, offshore supply base and/or energy environments.
  • Experience leading teams and managing contractors and third-party providers.
  • Experience with quayside operations, cargo handling and lifting activities.
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work, risk assessments and Permit to Work processes.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, including HASAWA, COSHH, LOLER and PUWER.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Experience of incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office and operational management systems.
  • Knowledge of offshore logistics, marine operations and Oil & Gas industry requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Appointed Person (BS 7121).
  • Banksman/Slinger qualification (BS 7121).
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificate.
  • Security Awareness Training.
Desirable Qualifications/Competencies
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Supervisory or management qualification.
  • Additional HSSEQ qualifications and evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Experience in emergency response planning and business continuity activities.
  • Working knowledge of port, marine and offshore industry regulations and best practice.
