Job summary

Trant Engineering Ltd. is seeking a Civil Site Supervisor to join our Operations team in Southampton. You will act as SCO91 Authorised Person, manage permits, and coordinate civil subcontractors on National Gas projects, ensuring safe sequencing and regulatory compliance.

The role requires SCO91, NGT project experience, and strong leadership and safety knowledge. You will liaise with site teams and clients to maintain high safety and quality standards on critical UK energy infrastructure

Qualifications

• Valid SCO91 certification (National Gas Transmission).
• Proven experience on NGT / National Grid Gas Transmission projects.
• Strong knowledge of SCO and Permit to Work systems.
• Registration on National Gas / EUSR database.
• SHEA Gas certification.
• Civil engineering / utilities background (groundworks, pipelines, AGIs).
• Excellent knowledge of site safety procedures and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Act as SCO91 Authorised Person and coordinate permits for site activities.
• Implement and manage Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures on National Gas sites.
• Issue and manage: Permit to Work (PTW) and Forms of Authority (FoA).
• Ensure all works comply with NG procedures, IGEM/GL/6 requirements, CDM and HSE standards.
• Coordinate civil subcontractors and site teams; ensure safe sequencing of works.
• Carry out site inspections, audits, safety briefings; maintain documentation of permits and isolations.
• Support QA/QC processes; assist with site handovers and defect management.

What You’ll Be Doing

1) Technical Responsibilities - Site Supervision

Act as the SCO91 Authorised Person, controlling and coordinating permits for site activities

Implement and manage Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures on National Gas sites

Issue and manage:

• Permit to Work (PTW)
• Forms of Authority (FoA)

Ensure all works comply with:

• National Gas Transmission procedures
• IGEM/GL/6 requirements
• CDM Regulations and HSE standards

Coordinate civil subcontractors and site teams, ensuring safe sequencing of works

Carry out site inspections, audits, and safety briefings Maintain accurate documentation for permits, isolations, and control systems

2) Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality & Compliance

• Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies on site.
• Conduct daily toolbox talks, risk assessments, and site inspections.
• Report incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly and accurately.
• Maintain accurate records of daily site activities, including work progress, inspections, and material usage.
• Support QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with company and client standards.
• Assist with site handovers and defect management.

3) Stakeholder Communication

• Act as the first point of contact for on‑site queries from operatives and subcontractors.
• Provide regular updates to the General Foreman or Project Manager.
• Liaise with clients, inspectors, or other site visitors when required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Valid SCO91 certification (National Gas Transmission)
• Proven experience working on NGT / National Grid Gas Transmission projects
• Strong understanding of:
• Safe Control of Operations (SCO)
• Permit to Work systems
• Registration on the National Gas / EUSR database
• SHEA Gas certification
• Civil engineering / utilities background (groundworks, pipelines, AGIs, etc.)
• Excellent knowledge of site safety procedures and compliance requirements
• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Temporary Works Supervisor / Coordinator
• SMSTS or SSSTS
• First Aid at Work
