Job summary

Trant Engineering Ltd seeks a Site Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations on National Grid projects in South East England. You will oversee site activities, coordinate engineering and commissioning teams, and ensure delivery on schedule and within budget while upholding SHEQ standards.

You will manage site teams, engage subcontractors, and act as the main client interface, maintaining documentation and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • SMSTS or equivalent health and safety certification required.
  • Proven experience as a Site Manager delivering projects in the energy sector.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver site works to programme, cost and quality targets.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental compliance on construction sites.

Description

Due to continued success in the sector we are looking to appoint a Site Manager with proven experience delivering National Grid projects. This fantastic opportunity will enable the successful candidate to develop a long term career with the organisation.

Within Trant, the primary duty of the Site Manager is to ensure safe and compliant practices on their site. The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day site activities for their dedicated site, ensuring works are delivered on schedule, within budget, to SHEQ standards, clients contract conditions and regulatory standards. The role manages site personnel, coordinates subcontractors, and acts as a key interface between construction, engineering, and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities: Site Management
  • Manage and supervise site teams, including subcontractors and operatives.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of construction and installation works.
  • Manage site resources, plant, and materials effectively.
  • Maintain quality standards, inspections, and defect management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Company Management System, Policies, Statutory and Client requirements.
  • Ensure all site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor site progress against programme and report issues or delays to the Senior Site Manager / Project Manager.
  • Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety inspections.
  • Follow CDM Regulations, site rules, permits to work, and isolation procedures.
  • Provide regular site progress reports, including programme updates and resource usage.
  • Maintain site records, quality documentation, and Health & Safety logs.
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a primary site interface for clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with design, engineering, and commissioning teams to ensure works are aligned with project requirements.
  • Close liaison with commercial and planning staff to ensure that work proceeds within budget and schedule.
  • Resolve site issues proactively, escalating to Project Manager as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or equivalent site management health and safety certification.
  • Proven experience as a Site Manager or Assistant Site Manager delivering projects in the energy sector.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary site teams and subcontractors, ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
  • Experience overseeing site delivery on programme, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Demonstrable experience in health, safety, and environmental compliance on construction or engineering sites.
Desirable
  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Construction, or related Engineering discipline.
  • CDM Coordinator/Management training relevant to UK construction projects.
  • Experience working on National Grid or regulated utility frameworks.
  • Exposure to commissioning or handover activities, coordinating closely with engineering and commissioning teams.
  • Experience liaising with clients, regulators, and statutory authorities on-site.
