About the role

Job Opportunity: Site Supervisor - Cabling

Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team is looking for an experienced Site Supervisor - Cabling to join us on our flagship EGL2 Project in Hull.

In this vital role, you will be responsible for supervising site operatives, ensuring they are trained, equipped, and supported to deliver high-quality cable installation work safely, competently, and on schedule. You will play a key role in deploying the correct types and quantities of plant and equipment, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure all operatives are trained and competent to carry out cabling works safely and efficiently.

• Oversee the deployment and use of appropriate plant and equipment.

• Work closely with Site Engineers and the Site Manager to ensure the project is delivered according to programme.

• Actively participate in project planning and problem-solving to resolve any delivery issues as they arise.

• Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance on site.

What you'll be doing

• Assist the Engineer in carrying out weekly inspections of all plant, lifting equipment
  and recording on the appropriate forms.
• Ensure Permit to Work near Existing Services documentation is clearly and correctly
  carried out for all groundbreaking activities related to construction works.
• Ensure the Engineer has all necessary information to arrange on site security as
  required.
• Ensure site records are handed over to the Engineer for final records to be produced in a timely manner
• Ensure Balfour Beatty's Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practices.
• The Supervisor must establish morning and evening Meeting Points for all operatives to meet and be briefed in safety matters, toolbox talks, scope of work activities, register attendance/absence and to ensure all operatives have left the site at the end of the day.
• Leadership of Zero Harm and drive for continuous improvement across SHEQ within projects
• Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all persons under your control.
• Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, bsafety and welfare.
• Do not undertake any safety critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required, unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work. Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work.
• Review the scope of works to be carried out with the Project Manager and/or Site Engineers, identifying and agreeing safe systems of work to be employed.
• Review method statements and risk assessments that are specific to construction activities and assist in compiling the Work packs ensuring they contain all relevant information
• Arrange that all operatives in the gangs are given site inductions prior to any site activities starting and daily briefings prior to commencing any activity.
• Ensure and monitor that all site personnel have the correct PPE and welfare facilities on site.
• Liaise with Engineers on environmental issues regarding SSSI, Flora and Fauna, Archaeological impacts etc.
• Ensure that accidents and incidents are promptly reported, giving accurate details established at the time of the incident.
• Supervise the Foremen and operatives on a daily basis, establishing and communicating the methods of work to be employed in carrying out the construction operations, assisting with resources requirements and movements of operatives on the project, to deliver the safe, smooth and efficient running of the Contract
• Attend regular safety forums with site operatives, encouraging new initiatives, to address issues relating to safe working practices, promoting near miss reporting and reviewing.
• Communicate safety alerts and information to all persons involved in construction operations.
• Assist the Safety Department to investigate accidents, incidents and near misses
• Liaise with the Project Manager and/or Site Engineer to ensure a timely requisition for sufficient plant and equipment is made, giving adequate notice to Resources.
• Ensure all site personnel have the correct authorisations to operate plant or receive permits.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are Essential:

• Previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or
  Substation schemes up to 400kV
• Experience in implementing safe systems of work
• Effective Communication Skills
• Excellent relationship management skills
• Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success
• Holds a current driving license

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

• Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control
• Good understanding of current safety legislation

The candidate is likely to have the following

• Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent
