Job summary

UST is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional team responsible for reliability, scalability, performance and security of internally developed applications in a Nottingham hybrid environment.

You will develop people, align technical priorities with business goals and promote SRE practices across the organisation, collaborating with product and engineering teams to improve platform health and resilience.

Qualifications

• Experience leading an engineering team delivering against business objectives.
• Strong background in software/systems engineering and cloud architecture.
• Excellent knowledge of SDLC in cloud environments.
• Experience designing and managing RESTful APIs using Java or .NET.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

UST is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for improving the reliability, scalability, performance and security of internally developed applications.

This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone who combines strong software and systems engineering knowledge with the ability to develop people, manage technical priorities and promote Site Reliability Engineering practices across the wider business.

You will work closely with product, engineering and senior stakeholders to improve platform health, reduce operational overhead and build reliable services through observability, automation and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience leading an engineering team and helping it deliver against business objectives.
• A strong background in software engineering, systems engineering and cloud architecture.
• Excellent knowledge of the software development lifecycle within cloud-based environments.
• Strong knowledge of developing and managing RESTful API services using a modern object-oriented language, such as Java or .NET.
• The technical aptitude to understand and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective partnerships across engineering teams.
• An understanding of inner-source collaboration and how it can improve reuse and reduce duplicated effort.
• Proven workload management, prioritisation and organisational skills within an agile environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Experience working with multi-vendor technical and business teams.
• A self-motivated, hands-on approach to both engineering and people management.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience leading a Site Reliability Engineering team.
• Previous hands-on experience in a software development role.
