Job summary

FCC Environment in Ampthill, Bedfordshire is hiring a Waste Operative. You will help the public sort waste into correct streams and support recycling efforts on site.

This full-time role involves 34.5 hours per week at £12.89 per hour. You will ensure waste is stored safely, assist customers, and maintain a tidy, compliant site while following health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• A proven track record in a similar role.
• Knowledge of the waste industry and waste streams.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
• Commitment to health and safety culture.
• Willingness to complete required training (First Aider, Incident Controller, Materials Handler Operative).

Responsibilities

• Ensuring different waste streams are segregated into the appropriate containers.
• Assisting members of the public with separating their waste and providing general recycling advice.
• Greeting members of the public and helping them to use the site effectively.
• Ensuring waste is stored safely and in accordance with permit requirements.
• Ensuring hazardous waste is separated and stored appropriately.
• Keeping the site clean and tidy at all times.
• Identifying contaminated recyclable materials and taking appropriate action.
• Reporting Health and Safety incidents and near misses in accordance with company procedures.
• Ensuring waste tickets, Waste Transfer Notes and Consignment Notes are completed correctly.
• Working in accordance with FCC company policies, risk assessments and safe working practices.

As a Site Operative at FCC Environment, you will assist members of the public and ensure waste is correctly separated into the appropriate waste streams, helping to maximise recycling across the site.
