Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee maintenance, security, and facilities management of a primary school in Hammersmith. The role ensures the site and play areas remain safe, secure, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and the school community.

You will lead the site support team, manage contractors, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety, fire regulations, and safety testing. The position is full-time and permanent, with a 36-hour workweek.

Qualifications

  • Background in facilities management or premises management.
  • Experience with building maintenance in an educational environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
  • Hands-on practical skills (plumbing, carpentry, painting, basic electrical).
  • Strong communication skills with staff, contractors, and authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily maintenance, repair, and security of school buildings, grounds, and outdoor areas.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, fire regulations, risk assessments, and COSHH standards.
  • Manage statutory testing (legionella, fire alarms, emergency lighting, gas safety) and maintain records.
  • Supervise external contractors on site, ensuring work is safe and on schedule.
  • Act as a primary keyholder for the school and respond to out-of-hours alarm calls.
  • Manage and develop the site support team, setting schedules and daily operations.
  • Execute minor maintenance and DIY tasks across the premises.

Job description

Location: Hammersmith, West London (Walking distance from Hammersmith Station)

Salary: £34,000 – £39,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Year-round, 36 hours per week)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and practical Site Manager to oversee the maintenance, security, and facilities management of our vibrant primary school in Hammersmith. Conveniently located within short walking distance of the station, the Site Manager plays a central role in ensuring our school site and play areas remain safe, secure, and fully operational for our pupils, staff, and school community.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the daily maintenance, repair, and security of the primary school buildings, grounds, and outdoor areas.

Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, fire regulations, risk assessments, and COSHH standards.

Manage statutory compliance testing (legionella, fire alarms, emergency lighting, gas safety) and maintain accurate records.

Supervise external contractors on site, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to high standards.

Act as a primary keyholder for the school, responding to out-of-hours emergency alarm calls when required.

Manage and develop the site support team, setting schedules and ensuring efficient daily operations.

Execute minor maintenance and DIY tasks across the premises.

Key Requirements

Background in facilities management, premises management, or building maintenance (experience within an educational environment is desirable).

Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (an IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is highly advantageous).

Hands-on practical skills (e.g., minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, or basic electrical knowledge).

Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, contractors, and local authorities.

Valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo screening prior to starting).
