Job summary

Galliford Try Group is seeking a Site Manager to lead day‑to‑day construction on a Thames Water Security Upgrade site within the Thames Valley area. You will manage safety, quality and programme delivery while coordinating with subcontractors, designers and Thames Water stakeholders.

You will maintain site diaries, lookahead schedules, and documentation, supporting the Senior Site Manager and Project Manager with strong site control and effective coordination.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Site Manager or similar in construction, infrastructure, utilities or controlled environments.
  • Good understanding of RAMS, permits, inspections, site diaries and programme updates.
  • Able to coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, designers, suppliers and client representatives.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing site priorities.
  • Familiar with project systems such as MS 365/SharePoint/Teams.

Job description

Role Title: Site Manager
Business Unit: Asset Intelligence
Location: Thames Valley Area - Site Based
Role Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a Site Manager to join Galliford Try Asset Intelligence on a Thames Water Security Upgrade site. The role will manage the day-to-day construction and coordination activities on site, ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with programme, quality and client requirements. The Site Manager will support the Senior Site Manager and Project Manager by maintaining strong site control, accurate records and effective coordination with subcontractors, designers and Thames Water stakeholders.

What you will be doing:
  • Manage day-to-day site activities, subcontractors, operatives, deliveries, plant, permits, welfare and site logistics for the assigned site.
  • Maintain and update short-term site programmes, including 2-week and 6-week lookaheads, to support effective sequencing of the works.
  • Review RAMS at least monthly and ensure task-specific RAMS, COSHH assessments, permits and briefings are in place before works proceed.
  • Maintain daily site diaries with photographs, progress updates, labour records, plant records and key site events.
  • Coordinate site meetings with subcontractors, designers, Project Managers and Thames Water representatives as required.
  • Support procurement and site administration, including purchase orders, delivery tickets, plant hire, skips and material call-offs.
  • Maintain site budget records and provide updates on progress, constraints, risks and resource requirements.
  • Review lift plans, temporary works registers, technical query registers and other site control documents where applicable.
  • Manage CDM site setup and maintenance including welfare, site security, signage, fire precautions, emergency arrangements and site access controls.
  • Issue or manage permits such as working at height, hot works, permit to break ground and other project-specific permits.
  • Complete or maintain site safety records including observations, SHE returns, SHE audits, weekly inspections, fire extinguisher registers, first aid kit registers, HAVS information and SWMP updates where applicable.
  • Support site inspections, quality checks, ITP completion, NCR closeout, snagging, red-line records and handover evidence.
  • Raise early warnings, identify third-party issues and raise blockers, defects, design constraints or operational conflicts promptly.
  • Maintain a visible safety presence and stop unsafe works where required.
  • Promote a professional, collaborative and respectful site culture.
About you:
  • Previous experience as a Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager, Site Supervisor or similar role in construction, infrastructure, utilities or controlled operational environments.
  • Good understanding of site documentation, RAMS, permits, inspections, site diaries, quality records and programme updates.
  • Able to coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, designers, suppliers and client representatives.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing site priorities.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, FieldView, Viewpoint for Projects or similar project systems.
  • Able to read drawings, specifications, programmes and site information.
  • Committed to health, safety, quality, environmental compliance and professional site standards.
Desirable experience / qualifications:
  • SMSTS or SSSTS.
  • CSCS card.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene.
  • Temporary Works Awareness.
  • Experience working on water, utilities, security, MEP, civils or live operational sites.
  • Familiarity with Thames Water site access, TWOSA, TOCOP or similar operational approval processes would be beneficial.
