Job summary

Metropolitan Services seeks a Northern Department Site Manager to coordinate site-based labour on secured construction projects and, when needed, scope and price tenders across the UK.

The role requires a professional, client-facing approach, strong leadership, and the ability to drive project execution while maintaining HSEQ standards and compliance with CDM regulations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience as a site manager, ideally with a Main Contractor
  • Must reside within a 20 mile / 30 minute commute of Glasgow City Centre
  • Full Driving Licence required
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • SMSTS Qualification / Equal Approved
  • First Aid Trained
  • Two references required
  • DBS Check – Basic or Enhanced (will be completed upon appointment)
  • Financial / Sanction Check (will be completed upon appointment)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Fit-Out & MEP or Civil Projects to a high standard
  • Lead client-facing interactions with a professional demeanour
  • Chair site meetings, drive outcomes and maintain records of discussions and deadlines
  • Understand client requirements and project specs, drawings and scope holistically
  • Assist with project programming, scheduling and labour allocation
  • Support monthly progress reporting and communicate with stakeholders
  • Oversee site safety, HSEQ practices and CDM compliance
  • Coordinate procurement activities and manage sub-contractor RAMS
  • Promote value engineering and opportunities to reduce cost while maintaining quality
  • Liaise with Project Managers and wider team to ensure timely delivery
  • Attend client progress meetings and support with accurate information
  • Work away from home as required and be willing to work overtime when needed

Job Description

The responsibilities of the Northern Department Site Manager will include supporting the Northern Department by providing site-based coordination and management of internal and sub-contracted multi-disciplined labour for secured construction projects.

When not site based, the role may involve the scoping, surveying and pricing of tenders across the UK, generating quotations, ordering materials and assisting the wider project team as required.

The role is client facing, requiring a presentable and professional approach at all times.

Requirements
  • Demonstratable experience with a minimum 5 years’ experience as a site manager, ideally in a Main Contractor role.
  • Reside within a 20 mile / 30 minute commute of Glasgow City Centre.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS Qualification / Equal Approved.
  • First Aid Trained.
  • Two references required.
  • DBS Check – Basic or Enhanced (will be completed upon appointment if not current).

  • Mechanical or Electrical time served.
  • Technical Author experience.
  • Further education.
Responsibilities
  • Proven track record of delivering Fit-Out & MEP or Civil Projects to an extremely high standard.
  • Possessing a professional demeanour, client facing and with a keen focus on customer care in all instances.
  • Confident and effective communication, ability to support Project Managers in chairing site meetings, driving outcomes, ensuring the production of accurate records of discussions, actions and deadlines.
  • Ability to fully understand the client requirement, technical specifications, drawings and project requirement holistically.
  • Assist with the generation of project programming, scheduling of works and labour allocation.
  • Support Project Managers with the delivery of regular progress reports including programme drop lines for issue to project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with producing onsite dilapidations and completion of validations.
  • Understanding the importance of the development and submission of RFI’s, TQ’s and driving close out of items raised.
  • Liaise with colleagues to gain a full understanding of the project requirements.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions under pressure.
  • A logical and lateral thinker with the ability to problem solve.
  • Effective communicator, driven, focused, tenacious and conscientious.
  • Excellent time management, ability to delegate, prioritise key tasks and workload when working to strict deadlines.
  • Highly adept at the co-ordination of work packages, understanding the interaction of trades and the ability to foresee potential issues and H&S risks.
  • Lead by example, promote the highest of standards with regards to HSEQ best practice, ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, ISO accreditations and legislative requirements in all instances.
  • Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor responsibilities under appointment.
  • Assist the H&S Team and Project Managers with the generation of CDM PCI, CPP and site plans where relevant.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new ways of working.
  • Drive the company’s vision, values and work ethic, contributing to the growth of the business.
  • Generate new opportunities, upsell GML as a business, secure additional works where possible, act on opportunities to reduce cost, add value and maximise profit.
  • Endeavour to spot and highlight value engineering opportunities.
  • Oversee and coordinate the mobilisation of projects.
  • Review sub-contractor RAMS and generate GML proforma documents for submission to the client.
  • Ability to adhere to client and stakeholder policies and procedures.
  • Deliver Toolbox talks, Pre-start briefings and CDM inductions where relevant.
  • Promote Group Metropolitans’ Rules and establish safe working cultures and practices.
  • Liaise with colleagues to highlight key risks or concerns.
  • Issue permits to work to GML sub-contractors – Capability specific.
  • Be willing to upskill where additional training is deemed a requirement to deliver the works successfully.
  • Attend client progress meetings and support Project Managers with accurate information.
  • Liaise with customers, build relationships and promote GML as a professional services business.
  • Promote and comply with environmental compliance policies.
  • Endeavour to ensure work is delivered defect/snag free.
  • Ensure that records are accurate and comply with organisational and legal requirements.
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties or problems that may arise on site.
  • Liaise with Project Managers and plan procurement activities to ensure adequate resources to complete the tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  • Review and report on progress in conjunction with construction programmes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance.
  • Timely handover of works and supporting with O&M manual generation, providing information to support in the generation of the CDM H&S File.
  • Liaising with Project Managers and wider team members.
  • When not site based, progress customer enquiries, surveys sites, generate competitive quotations with support of GML management with larger tenders.
  • Work away from home as the business requires.
  • Work overtime during weekdays, at weekends or on nights as the business requires.
