Job summary

Kenton Black is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support major infrastructure and civil projects across the West Midlands. The role involves setting out, ensuring works follow drawings and programme, and maintaining QA records on site.

You will work with Site Managers and subcontractors, promote high health and safety standards, and bring experience reading drawings and using Leica/Trimble equipment. A civil engineering degree and CSCS card are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with drainage and external works is required.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience on major civil/infrastructure projects.
• Setting out using surveying equipment with accuracy.
• Full UK driving license and strong communication skills.

A leading multi-million pound civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support the delivery of major infrastructure and civil engineering projects across the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out for a range of civil engineering works.
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.
• Carrying out quality assurance checks and maintaining accurate site records.
• Producing and maintaining as‑built surveys.
• Working closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Promoting and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Essential Experience

• Drainage installation (surface water, foul water, and associated infrastructure).
• Footpaths, kerbing, and external works.
• Concrete and structural works, including reinforced concrete structures, retaining walls, culverts, or similar civil infrastructure.
• Setting out using Leica or Trimble equipment.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Working on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

Requirements

• Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Valid CSCS card.
• SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).
• Full UK driving license.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
