Job summary

Carmichael UK is recruiting a Site Engineer for a major HS2 infrastructure scheme in Buckingham. You will set out and survey highways and structures, supporting earthworks, drainage and civils packages, and ensure works meet drawings and specs.

Responsibilities include producing method statements and ITPs, managing on-site quality control, coordinating with subcontractors, and reporting progress to senior engineers. CSCS card and Civil Engineering degree are required.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer on major civils projects.
• Proficiency with GPS and total stations for setting out.
• Understanding of drawings, specs and QA procedures.
• CSCS card required.

Responsibilities

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to join a major HS2 infrastructure scheme based in Buckingham. This role will support the delivery of key highways and structural packages, contributing to one of the UK's largest and most complex civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out and surveying for highways and structural works including bridges, culverts, and reinforced concrete structures
• Supporting the delivery of road construction, earthworks, drainage, and associated civils packages
• Ensuring works are completed in accordance with design drawings and specifications
• Producing and reviewing method statements, risk assessments, and inspection test plans (ITPs)
• Managing quality control on site, including inspections, testing, and documentation
• Coordinating with subcontractors and site teams to ensure efficient delivery
• Monitoring progress and providing accurate reports to senior engineers and site management
• Resolving technical issues in collaboration with the design and engineering teams
• Ensuring all works comply with health, safety, and environmental standards

Requirements

• Experience working as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer on major civils projects
• Strong experience in both highways and structures (essential)
• Knowledge of earthworks, drainage, and reinforced concrete works
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g. HS2, highways, rail, or major civils schemes)
• Proficient in setting out using GPS, total stations, and engineering software
• Good understanding of construction processes, specifications, and drawings
• Relevant qualification (HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent)
• CSCS card required

Desirable

• Previous experience working on HS2 or similar Tier 1 projects
• Familiarity with NEC contracts and major project processes
• Experience working for Tier 1 contractors or joint ventures
