Job summary

VGC Group is seeking a Site Engineer to support civil infrastructure projects and drainage works. You will provide accurate setting-out and surveying on site, interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure works meet design and programme requirements.

Responsibilities include monitoring structures, pits, ducts, and drainage works, checking levels, and ensuring compliance with RAMS and permits. Strong communication and team collaboration are essential.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to join an established project team. The roles will support the delivery of approach works, including structures, pits and ducting, as well as supporting the drainage team. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing accurate engineering and setting-out support on site, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, permits and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out accurate setting out and surveying for construction activities.
  • Set out and monitor structures, pits, ducts and associated approach works.
  • Support the delivery of drainage works, including setting out and level control.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and engineering information.
  • Check dimensions, levels and alignment throughout the works.
  • Ensure works are undertaken in accordance with approved permits, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Assist with the preparation, implementation and close-out of permits to work.
  • Ensure relevant permits are in place before construction activities commence.
  • Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with permit requirements and elevate any issues.
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance to site teams.
  • Undertake site measurements and maintain accurate records.
  • Liaise with Site Managers, Section Engineers and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered correctly.
  • Monitor construction activities against drawings, specifications, RAMS and permits.
  • Identify and report any technical issues, discrepancies or potential problems.
  • Assist with quality control and ensure works are completed to the required standards.
  • Maintain appropriate site records and engineering documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider project team to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
  • Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering/infrastructure projects.
  • Strong setting-out experience.
  • Experience working on structures, pits, ducting and/or drainage.
  • Experience working within a permit-to-work environment.
  • Good understanding of permits, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering and construction drawings.
  • Good understanding of levels, coordinates and construction tolerances.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a site-based delivery team.
