Job summary

GE Vernova seeks an EHS Site Manager to lead safety, environmental compliance, and risk reduction in a fast-paced manufacturing site in the UK. You will align EHS priorities with operations, promoting a proactive culture and safer ways of working on the shop floor.

You will drive hazard elimination, lead investigations, and partner with operations to improve quality, reduce downtime, and sustain compliance while embedding Lean principles throughout the site.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent professional health and safety qualification.
  • Significant hands-on EHS experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or operational environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and environmental requirements.
  • Proven experience implementing, maintaining, and auditing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence credibly at all levels, from shop-floor teams to senior leadership.
  • Strong practical experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, corrective actions, audit readiness, and compliance reporting.
  • A practical, organised, and analytical approach, with the ability to use EHS data and reporting systems to drive improvement.
  • A collaborative, improvement-focused mindset suited to a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Be a visible presence across the site, working closely with production teams to spot risk early, challenge unsafe conditions, and build stronger day-to-day safety ownership.
  • Shift the focus from incident response to hazard elimination, using proactive interventions and stronger controls to prevent issues before they reach the shop floor.
  • Partner with operations leaders to show how safe, disciplined processes improve quality, reduce downtime, and support consistent manufacturing output.
  • Translate Group EHS strategy into practical site standards, routines, and action plans that work in a live manufacturing environment.
  • Lead site compliance with UK legislation and management system requirements, maintaining strong standards across ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 in a regulated setting.
  • Analyse safety trends, reporting, and leading indicators to identify risk, challenge weak points, and drive meaningful continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of EHS risk across industrial operations, including electrical safety, lifting operations, and work at height.
  • Lead robust incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are practical, effective, and sustained.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external bodies, including the HSE and Environment Agency, to maintain engagement, compliance, and trust.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to embed Lean thinking into EHS activity, helping to reduce waste, improve discipline, and strengthen operational efficiency.
  • Support the development of clear, practical procedures and standards that enable teams to work safely while maintaining operational pace.]
  • Desirable: Experience in a heavy manufacturing or higher-risk industrial environment.
  • IOSH membership or working towards CMIOSH.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001.
  • Experience of integrating Lean or continuous improvement methods into EHS activity.
