Job summary

TES Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Site Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning activities for data centre projects, ensuring safe installation, testing, integration and handover of critical systems.

You will plan and execute FATs/SATs, manage documentation, coordinate with contractors and clients, and verify systems meet project specs and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Background in MEP, construction, facilities, or commissioning.
• Experience on mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, or data centres.
• Managed commissioning programmes on large-scale data centre projects.
• Degree or Higher National Diploma in electrical, mechanical, building services, energy engineering or time served.

Responsibilities

• Develop commissioning plans, procedures and schedules aligning with client commissioning schedules.
• Review design documents, specifications and construction drawings; coordinate with contractors, consultants and clients.
• Carry out, witness and verify FATs and SATs; perform pre-functional and functional testing of electrical, mechanical, BMS, EPMS, fire systems.
• Coordinate and report commissioning progress; prepare reports and test documentation; support handover and O&M documentation.

The Site Commissioning Engineer manages and executes commissioning activities for data centre projects, ensuring that mission-critical systems are installed, tested, integrated, and handed over safely and efficiently with a satisfied customer.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Planning

• Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules which align with clients commissioning schedules
• Review design documents, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, consultants, and clients.
• Support risk assessments and method statements.

System Testing and Validation

• Carry out, witness and verify factory acceptance tests (FATs) and site acceptance tests (SATs).
• Perform pre-functional and functional testing of:

  1. Electrical systems (switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs).

  2. Mechanical systems (chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps).
  3. Building Management Systems (BMS).
  4. Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
  5. Fire detection and suppression systems.
• Execute integrated systems testing (IST).

Quality Assurance

• Ensure systems comply with:

  1. Project specifications.

  2. Client requirements.
  3. Industry standards and regulations.
• Identify defects and manage resolution through commissioning trackers.

Coordination and Reporting

• Coordinate with:

  1. Construction teams.

  2. Equipment vendors.
  3. Design consultants.
  4. Operations teams.
• Prepare commissioning reports and test documentation.
• Track progress against commissioning schedules.

Handover and Closeout

• Verify completion of all commissioning activities.
• Compile operation and maintenance (O&M) documentation.
• Support client training and final handover.
• Ensure all systems are ready for live operation

Required Criteria

• Do you have a background in MEP, construction, facilities, or commissioning?
• Do you have experience on mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, or data centres?
• Have you Managed commissioning programmes on large-scale data centre projects?
• Do you hold a degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in electrical, mechanical, building services, energy engineering or time served?

Desired Criteria

• Do you hold any of the following certificates? CIBSE Commissioning qualifications. ASHRAE commissioning-related training. Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS). Health & Safety certifications (CSCS, SMSTS), 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382), Testing & Inspection City & Guilds 2391-52
