A quick look at the role

The Chemist will efficiently receive, process, and dispatch incoming waste through our hazardous waste transfer facility. The role requires assessing and handling waste in an approved manner, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, while continuously improving productivity, plant availability, and the quality of materials sent off-site.

  • Monitor and control all processes within the facility concerning personnel and equipment to ensure operational productivity and plant availability.
  • Ensure security of waste entering the facility and proper disposal in line with customer requirements, minimizing costs.
  • Ensure inputs and outputs meet defined standards (PPC, pre-acceptance, acceptance, and onward transfer), promoting best practices and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.
  • Manage material flows to minimize delays and backlogs.
  • Conduct regular stock control and inventory of waste and consumables on-site.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in all areas, ensuring timely housekeeping activities.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all company policies, processes, and procedures.
Requirements

Here's what we require:

  • Experience working as a chemist in hazardous waste management or related chemical/manufacturing industries.
  • Minimum of an HNC in Chemistry.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Understanding of working within a time-critical processing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills for data measurement and monitoring.
  • Good organizational skills to simplify complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal.
  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK for meetings and project work.
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude.
