About the Role:

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to Feed Manufacturing across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Multi Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Feed Mill in Allensmore, Hereford.

This position is ideally suited to someone with a minimum Level 3 qualification in Engineering and preferably IEE 17th or 18th Edition.

Week 1 Mon, Tues, Weds (Thurs, Fri off) Sat, Sun, (All 6am-6pm)
Week 2 (Mon, Tues, Weds off) Thurs, Fri (Sat, Sun off) (All 6am-6pm)
Week 3 Mon, Tues, Weds (Thurs, Fri off) Sat, Sun, (All 6am-6pm)
Week 4 (Mon, Tues, Weds off) Thurs, Fri (Sat, Sun off) (All 6am – 6pm)
Week 5 Mon, Tues, Weds (Thurs, Fri off) Sat, Sun, (All 6pm-6am)

Rotating shifts 18.00 – 06.00 and 06.00 – 18.00. This averages to 3.5 days per week an annualised average of 42 hours per week.

Purpose of the role:

As a Multi Skilled Engineer operating from a well-established animal feed mill, you will optimise machinery output and product quality, and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance and efficient response whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practices.

A fast-paced, dynamic feed manufacturing environment which is noisy and dusty in some areas, manufacturing animal feeds where hygiene standards are critical. The role is predominantly factory based.

Your key responsibilities as a Multi Skilled Engineer will include:

  1. Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance and Breakdown/Reactive Maintenance of Plant and Equipment
  2. Ensure the Engineering maintenance carried out in line with the current schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  3. Quick and effective response to breakdowns, where possible identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
  4. Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to Management and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
  5. Record and identify spare parts that have been used through CMMS and to Engineering Manager.
  6. Follow good engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department across the whole site.
  7. Ensure Maintenance and Engineering practices are audit compliant.
  8. Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety and environmental guidelines reporting any issues.
  9. Ensure compliance through regular process weigher and Liquid meter calibrations (weights and measures Act)
  10. Proficient in engineering operations whilst working in hazardous environments (Confined Space Entry, Hot working in confined spaces, Hot working, WAH)
  11. Participate in Mechanical projects and installations – Elevators, conveyors, machine installs, machine refurbishment.
  12. Participate in Electrical projects and installations – Panel manufacture and installation, PLC upgrades, PAT testing, thermographic surveying.
  13. Efficient operations of effluent plant systems ensuring environmental compliance.
  14. Understand the operations of fire suppression systems – Fire Trace, Sprinkler system, Hydrant system.
  15. Demonstrate understanding of environmental impacts – DSEAR, Dust controls and Explosion mitigation.

What we are looking for:

  1. Time served Multi-skilled Apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline
  2. Proactive and dynamic approach to safety
  3. Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  4. Ability to work under pressure whilst having a high attention to detail
  5. Flexibility with a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a small team.
  6. Food manufacture experience desirable
  7. IEE 17th or 18th Edition desirable
  8. PLC experience desirable
  9. Pneumatic and Hydraulic experience desirable
  10. Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) certification desirable
