Job summary

First Essex Buses Ltd in Chelmsford is hiring a Shunter/Cleaner to join our depot team. The role covers shunting, cleaning and basic vehicle care with full training provided. A valid UK driving license is required, and the shift is 39 hours per week, 17:00–01:00, five days over seven (weekends included).

PCV license boosts pay to £15.76/hr; without it, £15.17/hr. We offer health benefits, a bus pass after probation, pension, and cycle-to-work schemes.

• Must be able to operate in a depot environment.
• Experience in cleaning or vehicle maintenance is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Shunting and banksman duties around the depot.
• Fuelling/charging vehicles.
• Washing vehicle undercarriage and applying a pressure washer.
• Top ups of oil and water."
• Interior vehicle cleaning, including monthly deep clean across vehicles.
• General depot maintenance and cleaning as required.
• Accurate recording of work completed.

Position: Shunter/Cleaner

Location: Chelmsford, Westway, CM1 3AR

Contracted Hours: 39 hours per week - full time & permanent

Working Hours: 17:00pm-01:00am 5 days over 7 (including weekends)

Pay Rate: £15.17 per hour (£15.76 per hour if you hold a PCV license)

Do you want to be part of our energetic team of Cleaners, Engineers and maintenance staff that look after our fleet of vehicles at our Chelmsford depot? If yes, this Shunter/Cleaner position could be just the job for you!

Key Responsibilities:

• Shunting and banksman duties on vehicles around the depot (full training provided)
• Fuelling/charging vehicles
• Vehicle under chassis washing using a pressure washer
• Oil and water and top ups
• Interior vehicle cleaning duties including a monthly deep clean routine across all vehicles
• General depot maintenance and cleaning as and when required
• Recording details of all work completed accurately

About You:

You must hold a valid UK driving license to be considered for this role Do you have a flexible approach to working hours? Do you have previous cleaning experience?
