Job description

We are recruiting for a Shipping Officer for a leading Defence organisation based on site in Stevenage.
Ideally, you will have current SC Clearance; if not, you must be eligible to obtain it.

Responsibilities:

  1. To liaise and work closely with our export control team, local customs officers, and freight forwarders.
  2. To deliver a benchmark export and shipping service to the business.
  3. Timely delivery of product in line with project demands.
  4. Creation, completion, and management of documentation required to effect export deliveries, including transport documents, hazardous goods notes, customs formalities, etc.
  5. Topicality of Import, Export, and Transport Registers.
  6. Liaise with transport both UK and International.
  7. Undertake Imports and report Intrastats as required.
  8. Promotion of functional excellence.
  9. Assist Export Control Department in compliance with regards to Export Licences.
  10. Maintain topicality with all transport legislation up to and including prohibited weapons level.
  11. Identify process improvements to create an efficient and cost-effective service.
  12. Day-to-day knowledge of all movements from site.

Experience required:
  1. Detailed knowledge of export legislation.
  2. Ability to adapt style of communication to ensure effective delivery of service.
  3. Interpersonal skills across different business functions.
  4. Strength of character not to deviate from process when other demands conflict.

This is an umbrella contract; the role is Inside IR35.
