Job Opportunity: Shipping Litigation Solicitor or Barrister

Our client, a reputable Commercial law firm in London, is expanding its Shipping practice and seeks a Shipping Litigation Solicitor or Barrister with 3 or more years’ PQE/Call. The team serves a diverse international client base, including major shipowners, charterers, insurers, P&I clubs, shipyards, energy companies, commodities traders, and banks.

The firm advises on high-profile shipping, shipbuilding, and offshore disputes involving complex legal and commercial issues. They often handle cross-border jurisdictional disputes, work-outs, and bank enforcements. The team is well-equipped to manage a broad spectrum of shipping and trade-related matters, from intricate marine incidents and financing structures to cargo claims and sale and purchase disputes.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will primarily focus on litigation and arbitration. Litigation work will typically be before the Commercial Court in London, with potential coordination of proceedings in other jurisdictions. Arbitration may be institutional (ICC, LCIA, SIAC), on LMAA Terms, or ad hoc. The role includes developing legal skills in contract law, especially related to charterparty disputes and the carriage of goods, and engaging with a diverse client portfolio. Additionally, the role offers opportunities for drafting and advisory work, enhancing your legal expertise.
