Job summary

PRS is recruiting an experienced Shift Technician to join a leading facilities management team operating within a highly critical technical environment in Harlow.

This role involves maintaining and monitoring mechanical and electrical systems, responding to faults and alarms, and supporting day-to-day operation of both critical and non-critical building services in a data centre setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in data centre or critical environments preferred.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with planned and reactive maintenance frameworks.
• Ability to follow RAMS and Permit to Work procedures.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join a leading facilities management team operating within a highly critical technical environment in Harlow.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong maintenance, facilities or critical environment background to join an established engineering team responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the site.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, responding to faults and alarms, and supporting the day-to‑day operation of both critical and non‑critical building services.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the facility.
• Respond to equipment faults, alarms and breakdowns.
• Monitor and maintain critical and non‑critical mechanical and electrical systems.
• Complete routine plant room inspections and operational checks.
• Monitor BMS and respond appropriately to alarms and system faults.
• Maintain HVAC, air conditioning and associated mechanical systems.
• Carry out electrical maintenance and fault finding where suitably qualified.
• Support the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure.
• Liaise with contractors and specialist engineering teams.
• Complete planned maintenance in accordance with site schedules.
• Follow SOPs, EOPs, RAMS, Permit to Work and LOTO procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and shift documentation.
• Participate in emergency response and incident management procedures.
• Carry out effective shift handovers and communicate outstanding issues.
• Identify potential issues before they impact site operations.
• Support continuous improvement and operational reliability initiatives.

About You

We're looking for an engineer with experience working within a data centre, critical environment, commercial, industrial or similarly complex technical facility.

You should have:

• Previous experience as a Shift Technician, Shift Engineer, Critical Facilities Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
• Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance experience.
• Experience with HVAC, AHUs, pumps, motors, BMS and/or electrical distribution.
• Good understanding of PPM and reactive maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working within a shift-based engineering environment.
• Understanding of RAMS, Permit to Work and LOTO procedures.
• Relevant electrical or mechanical qualifications.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure within a critical environment.
• A proactive approach to maintenance, safety and operational excellence.
