Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Shift Technician in Camelford to perform electrical and mechanical maintenance across industrial systems. The role involves 12-hour shifts (days/nights) on a 4-week rota, with a strong emphasis on boiler and steam system upkeep, P&ID understanding, and safe operation practices.

You will work within a supportive team, handle preventative maintenance, site documentation, and equipment diagnostics, while following strict EHS guidelines and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Essential experience with pumps, compressors, boilers, steam systems and ancillary services.
  • Reading P&IDs/electrical drawings.
  • Understanding instrumentation and safety protocols.
  • Equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to document work clearly and maintain records.
  • Proficient with basic IT and networking; good mechanical understanding.
  • Hands-on repair experience on industrial electrical/mechanical systems.
  • BOAS/raised safety qualifications are desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out work as per schedule by Contracts Manager or Supervisor.
  • Complete site documentation before/after tasks.
  • Liaise with subcontractors during planned maintenance.
  • Follow Veolia EHS rules and guidelines on site.
  • Provide shift coverage to maintain operational continuity.
  • Maintain steam boilers per OEM specs and plant records.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Support audits of plant rooms and rectify noted actions.

What you'll be doing:
  • Carry out work as per schedule supplied by the Contracts Manager or Supervisor.
  • Complete site documentation before and after work tasks.
  • Liaise with subcontractors during planned service maintenance.
  • All work on site to be carried out in accordance with site EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) and Veolia EHS rules and guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work on equipment in all buildings and around Maintenance Shutdowns
  • Participate in Audits of the Mechanical and Electrical plant rooms and follow up on actions
  • Carry out routine and statutory planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive and breakdown works to all mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ensure that the Steam boilers are maintained as per OEM specifications.
  • Ensure that plant faults and defects are swiftly rectified to maintain the plants in serviceable order at all times (24/7).
  • Maintenance and publication of plant quality records and reports.
  • Carry out daily routine operational tasks to plants that will comply with legislation and company policies.
  • Flexibility to provide shift coverage to maintain operational continuity when shift technicians are on holiday, ensuring all duties and responsibilities are fulfilled during their absence.
  • This role involves some lifting, working at heights and/or in confined spaces
What we're looking for:
  • Essential Experience with Pumps, Compressors, Boilers, steam systems and ancillary services.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs/electrical drawings
  • An understanding of Instrumentation.
  • Understanding of safety protocols
  • Equipment troubleshooting and diagnostics, Preventive maintenance procedures
  • Computer literacy and software applications, Good understanding of mechanical systems
  • Reading technical manuals and schematics, Quality control procedures, Documentation and record-keeping
  • Communication skills and teamwork, Basic IT and networking skills, Industry-specific regulations and standards
  • Demonstrate hands‑on experience of troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical systems; and related mechanical experience .
  • Desirable: Boiler Operations Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) Medium Risk Confined Space Electrical experience - City & Guilds 2382 - 18th Edition City & Guilds 2391 Health and Safety qualifications and awareness, risk assessment, method statement training, competence in issuing and use of all company Permit to Work systems would be preferential, however, training will be provided where appropriate.
