Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Shift Team Leader in Exeter, UK, on a 40-hour week with a rolling 24/7 shift pattern (including nights). The role ensures safe, efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility during the shift, reporting to the Operations Manager and supervising Shift Operator Technicians and Auxiliary Plant Operators.

The successful candidate will bring a safety-first mindset, strong leadership, and the ability to maintain high operational availability and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Operational experience in a process plant or energy-from-waste environment.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Experience issuing Permits to Work and managing SSOW.
• Proven leadership of shift teams.
• Proficient with CMMS and IT systems.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the shift team to maximise plant availability.
• Maximise waste throughput and energy output while following safety procedures.
• Act as SAP and manage SSOW, PTW, risk assessments and safety docs.
• Monitor environmental permitting compliance.
• Oversee planned maintenance via CMMS and defect resolution.
• Act as Incident Controller during emergencies and drills.
• Coordinate contractor activities and safety inductions.
• Provide shift briefings and handovers.
• Arrange weekend coverage as needed.
