Job summary

Veolia UK is recruiting for a Shift Team Leader at Chilton Power Station. You will oversee safe, efficient operation of high‑pressure boilers and turbine systems, operating from the central control room using DCS.

Role requires SAP status or progress toward SAP, plus strong safety discipline and coordination with engineering and operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications, or equivalent experience, within power generation or a similar industrial/process environment.
  • Sound engineering knowledge of power station plant, including boilers, steam systems, turbines and generators.
  • Experience of control room operations and using Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Knowledge of boiler water treatment, steam-cycle chemistry and associated plant processes.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate and/or IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Legionella awareness.
  • Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation, including PUWER, LOLER and CDM Regulations.
  • City & Guilds Medium Risk Confined Space qualification, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with power industry safety rules and electrical safety procedures.
  • SAP status, or experience as an Authorised Person with a willingness to work towards SAP accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the power station, including high-pressure boilers, steam turbine/generator systems and associated plant.
  • Operating at Senior Authorised Person (SAP) level, or working towards SAP status, to support the safe control of work across site.
  • Monitoring and controlling plant operation from the central control room using the Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Managing permit-to-work processes and safe systems of work, including permit office responsibilities.
  • Coordinating work planning and scheduling with Engineering and Operations teams, including maintenance and outage planning.
  • Identifying plant defects and raising, managing and progressing work orders through the CMMS/EAM system.
  • Supporting compliance with the site’s environmental permits, including monitoring, reporting and investigating any incidents or non-compliances.
  • Ensuring site safety rules and relevant health and safety legislation are consistently applied, including PUWER, LOLER and CDM Regulations.
  • Coordinating planned works and operational activities with internal teams, contractors and external parties, including network operator interfaces where required.
  • Operating site plant and equipment in line with operational requirements, training and authorisation.
  • Monitoring consumable stock levels and coordinating deliveries, collections and materials management activities.
  • Completing hazard observations and behavioural safety monitoring activities to promote and maintain a positive safety culture.

Hours: 40 hrs. 24 Hour rolling continental shift pattern. 4 x 12 hour shifts followed by 4 x rest days with 10 day breaks every 3 cycles
