Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Shift Engineer at the Tyseley Energy Recovery Facility in Birmingham. You will lead a shift team to ensure safe and efficient operation of the ERF and its associated plant, while acting as Control Person for safe work on site and coordinating during outages.

You will mentor and develop staff, maintain accurate records, and liaise with maintenance for scheduling. A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards is essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Leadership and people management experience in a high-performance operational environment.
• Strong IT literacy with standard office tools (Google Docs, Microsoft Office).
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance on a busy site.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a shift team to ensure safe, efficient operation of the ERF and associated plant.
• Act as Control Person, ensuring contractors and maintenance teams are safely set to work per safety rules.
• Represent site management during outages as Senior Authorised Person outside regular hours.
• Develop and mentor shift staff to enable future career progression and improved site performance.

What you’ll be doing; Leading and managing a shift team to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) and Clinical plant and equipment, adapting to operational demands as required Fulfilling the role of Control Person, ensuring all contractors and maintenance teams are safely set to work in full compliance with Veolia ERF Safety Rules and site Environmental Permit requirements Acting as the designated Senior Authorised Person during planned Plant Outages, representing the site management team in an out-of-hours capacity Driving the training, mentoring and development of shift staff, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for future career progression Maintaining accurate statutory and statistical records in line with Company Procedures and Policies, whilst liaising closely with maintenance teams to ensure efficient work scheduling and planning

What we're looking for; Relevant electro-mechanical or power engineering qualifications are essential for this role A proven leader with strong people management skills and a demonstrable ability to coach, mentor and develop individuals within a high-performance operational environment Previous experience working within an Energy from Waste facility, power station or similar electro-mechanical/power engineering setting is highly desirable An unwavering commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance, with a no-compromise approach to maintaining the highest standards on site Prior experience working within a shift rota environment, with a clear understanding of the demands and responsibilities this brings Strong IT literacy, with working knowledge of Google Docs and Microsoft Office products, alongside a solid understanding of relevant industry legislation
