Job summary

SUEZ operates at the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre in St Dennis, where the Shift Operations Technician helps run a waste-to-energy plant and ensure safe, compliant, low-emission energy production. The role combines hands-on boiler and DCS control with rigorous safety practices in a 2-days/2-nights/4-off shift pattern.

The ideal candidate has energy-recovery experience, boiler/chemistry knowledge, and relevant safety qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience in energy recovery, waste-to-energy, power plants or similar industrial processes (essential).
• Knowledge of boilers, combustion, process control, and relevant health & safety / environmental legislation.
• Preferred: BOAS Cert IBO and/or IOSH Working Safely qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, control, and optimise plant processes using the DCS, quickly identifying and resolving issues.
• Operate and maintain water tube boilers, including water analysis and chemistry monitoring.
• Perform safe system isolations to protect people, plant and the environment.
• Carry out regular checks, fault diagnosis, and support safe, reliable energy generation during normal operations, start-ups, shutdowns, and emergencies.
• Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards and environmental legislation at all times.

EFW Shift Operations Technician

Join us as a Shift Operations Technician at the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre where we generate clean electricity from residual waste and support a greener, more circular economy.

Salary and Benefits: £36,444.41 plus 20% Shift Allowance, up to 10% Bonus, 5% Company Pension, 3 x life assurance policy and benefits catalogue

Shift Pattern: 2 days, 2 Nights 4 Off - Rolling 7 Weeks - Then 18 Days Off

Location: Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre - St Dennis, ST. AUSTELL, PL26 8DY

What you'll be doing

You’ll help keep our energy recovery plant running safely and efficiently:

• Monitor, control, and optimise plant processes using the Distributed Control System (DCS), quickly identifying and resolving issues.
• Operate and maintain water tube boilers, including water analysis, chemistry monitoring, and ensuring optimal performance.
• Perform safe system isolations to protect people, plant, and the environment.
• Carry out regular checks, fault diagnosis, and support safe, reliable energy generation during normal operations, start-ups, shutdowns, and emergencies.
• Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards and environmental legislation at all times.

What we’re looking for
