Job summary

SUEZ is seeking a Maintenance Technician/Engineer for our Huddersfield energy recovery plant. You will deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance, ensuring installations meet current standards and regulatory requirements, while guiding junior staff and contractors.

Working with cross-functional teams, you will troubleshoot equipment issues to maximise availability and efficiency, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, health and safety, and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical background with basic electrical knowledge.
  • Experience as Maintenance Technician/Engineer in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
  • Experience using CMMS is desirable.
  • IOSH qualification desirable and supported for training.

What you'll be doing

You'll help ensure our Huddersfield energy recovery plant operates safely and at peak performance:

  • Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across all plant areas, ensuring installations and modifications comply with the latest standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and technical support to junior staff and contractors to foster skill development and safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across different functions to support smooth, cross-team operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues promptly to maximise plant availability and efficiency.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, health & safety, and environmental compliance.
What are the requirements?
  • Predominantly mechanical background with basic electrical knowledge, ideally from an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician/Engineer in manufacturing, production, or heavy industrial environments, with knowledge of conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics (basic electrical fault-finding highly beneficial).
  • Ideally qualified to City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Ability to use Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) (desirable).
  • IOSH qualification (desirable but not essential - we'll support you to gain it if needed).
