Job Description:

Shift Operations Manager

Location: Birstall

Contract Type: Permanent & full time

Shift Pattern: 24/7 - 12-hour shifts | 4 week rotating days and nights

At Mars, we're seeking a dedicated Shift Operations Manager to lead and develop a high-performing production team, including Operators, Area Leaders, and Shift Engineers. You will be responsible for achieving safety, quality, and efficiency targets.

This hands-on role involves spending 50% of your time in your operational area and 50% on coaching, development, and continuous improvement activities. You will ensure smooth line operations, compliance with safety and food quality standards, and foster a culture of ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and coach your team to safely meet daily production plans
• Ensure consistent quality through routine checks and issue escalation
• Develop and maintain a trained, competent, and engaged team
• Own labor planning and resource alignment with stakeholders
• Coordinate maintenance activities and effective handovers
• Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
• Monitor KPIs and champion continuous improvement

Requirements:

• Proven experience in shift or operational leadership, preferably in manufacturing or engineering
• Strong data-driven decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills for coaching and influencing
• Knowledge of safety and food quality standards (IOSH, HACCP, Food Hygiene Level 3)
• Computer literacy and operational systems proficiency
• Relevant qualifications (Level 4-5 or equivalent experience)
