Job summary

Knauf is seeking a Maintenance Technician (Electrical) at the Sittingbourne Plant to ensure safe, reliable operation of process equipment on shift. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs and execute preventative maintenance to optimise production.

The role requires experience with PLC systems, Siemens S7, and CMMS SAP. The job includes 12-hour shifts (days/nights) and a supportive engineering team in a values-led culture.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Level 3 NVQ Electrical Apprenticeship with proven problem solving abilities.
  • Essential: HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or relevant experience).
  • Essential: BS7671 IEE 18th Edition.
  • Essential: Portable Appliance Testing Certification.
  • Essential: Condition Based Maintenance – Thermography and Vibration Analysis.
  • Essential: Experience with CMMS systems (Ideally SAP).
  • Essential: Knowledge of safe systems of work and health and safety.
  • Essential: Experienced with CMMS (SAP Maintenance & T-Con).
  • Essential: Good communication skills and ability to work autonomously within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, efficient operation of process equipment on shift.
  • Respond to stoppages and diagnose, isolate and repair faults.
  • Undertake planned preventive maintenance and improvement activities.
  • Follow Health and Safety procedures and deploy safeguards as required.
  • Record activity in SAP CMMS with technical details for analyses.
  • Lead by example to maintain high technical standards.

Knauf (Gypsum) are searching for team members to join our Engineering Team as a Maintenance Technician (Electrical) at our Sittingbourne Plant.
Within this role, the Shift Maintenance Electrician will be working a 4 on 6 off shift pattern, each shift is 12 hours. This shift pattern includes days & nights (5am - 5pm or 5pm - 5am)

What you'll be doing:

The Maintenance Technician have a primary responsibility to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of process equipment on their shift. They will respond to process stoppages or abnormalities as required for diagnosis, isolations and to effect repairs, or as otherwise directed by the Shift Manager or their Line Manager. They will also undertake planned preventative maintenance and improvement activities.

  • You are required to follow company Health and Safety procedures to ensure the safety of yourself and others.

  • You are also required to demonstrate appropriate levels of technical competence in assessing and mitigating risks and implementing relevant safeguards when undertaking any maintenance or intervention activity, working in a safe manner in accordance with relevant legislation, codes, procedures and accepted best practice, leading by example, and deploying a duty of care to oneself and others.

  • To execute efficient and effective reactive maintenance to process interruptions or abnormalities, and to engage with the shift operational team in any other requested capacity, in order to contribute to shift and plant performance objectives.

  • To undertake planned preventative maintenance and improvement activities according to the work schedule.

  • To develop own process knowledge and technical expertise in designated manufacturing processes, contributing to standardisation, optimisation, improvement, and diagnostics initiatives such as PLC interrogation, Root Cause Analysis covering set-up, operation and maintenance.

  • To ensure that work is always undertaken to a high technical and professional standard, including where necessary supervising the work of others to ensure standards, quality and fulfilment.

  • To record all appropriate activity and observations in the SAP CMMS with sufficient technical detail to support later analyses.

  • Provide an active contribution to the activities and responsibilities of the engineering department, supporting and providing cover for colleagues where required.

  • Shift handovers via SAP to ensure safe & effective transition of work tasks & shift activities.

  • Perform effective LOTOTO (Lock Out, Test Out & Tag Out) procedures and issuing of appropriate permits to work.

  • Anything commensurate to complete your role.

What we'd love for you to have:

Essential:

  • Completed Level 3 NVQ Electrical Apprenticeship (or equivalent) with proven problem evaluation and resolving skills.

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or relevant experience)

  • BS7671 IEE 18th Edition

  • Experience with CMMS systems (Ideally SAP)

  • Knowledge of safe systems of work and procedures and an excellent regard for health and safety.

  • Experienced with CMMS (SAP Maintenance & T-Con)

  • Good communication skills with peers, colleagues and contractors.

  • You must be able to work autonomously but also be an active part of the team.

  • Computer literate.
