Job summary

TJ Morris Ltd is recruiting a Shift Leader - Mechanical for its new tissue converting facility in Liverpool. The role leads a multidisciplinary team, operates converting lines, and drives maintenance programs to sustain peak production and safety standards.

You will troubleshoot mechanical faults, perform planned maintenance, and support equipment installations while collaborating with production teams to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience in FMCG environment, preferably tissue paper converting.
• Proficient mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Knowledge of LOTO-PTW procedures and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of operators to meet production targets.
• Operate and monitor tissue converting lines and related equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot faults to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and ensure safe operation.
• Collaborate with production teams and manage contractor relationships.
• Support installation of new equipment and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork in a fast-changing FMCG setting.

• Average 38.61 hours per week working 3 days on, 3 days off, on a rotating basis across both day shifts (6:00am-6:00pm) and night shifts (6:00pm-6:00am).
• Based in Huyton, Liverpool.
• 28 days paid holiday per year including bank and public holiday allowance rising to 33 days upon 5 years'service

As a Shift Leader - Mechanical, you will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the converting lines to ensure optimal efficiencies are attained. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of operators and troubleshoot mechanical systems to ensure seamless production operations. The role will involve reducing downtime, enhancing efficiency, and contributing to the overall success of the operation.

Job Overview

• Leading a multidisciplinary team of operators.
• Operating equipment to the required standards while achieving set production targets.
• Performing routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems, including tissue converting machinery, packaging equipment, and ancillary systems.
• Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical faults, implementing effective solutions to minimise downtime.
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and ensuring equipment operates efficiently and safely (including LOTO-PTW).
• Collaborating with production teams to minimise downtime and address issues, while documenting maintenance activities and ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations.
• Assisting with new equipment installations and managing contractor relationships.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and developing maintenance procedures to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
• Previous experience in a similar role within an FMCG environment, preferably in tissue paper converting.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated systems.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
