Job summary

Arriva TrainCare (ATC) Tyne Yard is seeking a skilled engineering technician to maintain and overhaul rail vehicles on a 4 on/4 off pattern, 19:00–05:30, averaging 35 hours per week. You’ll work under the Light Maintenance Team Leader, applying engineering principles, following procedures, and ensuring rolling stock reliability.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent.
• Experience in rail vehicle maintenance and rolling stock.

• Carry out maintenance and overhaul of rail vehicles within set timescales and standards.
• Assist with diagnostics and repairs as directed by Team Leader.

We operate throughout the UK from six strategic locations – Crewe, Bristol, Eastleigh, Cambridge, Tyne Yard and Scarborough.Arriva TrainCare is part of Arriva, and you’ll be part of a professional team with these core behaviours at heart:• We care passionately• We do the right thing• We make the differenceBenefits include 25 days annual leave (plus standard UK bank holidays), pension, life and healthcare cover, Arriva UK Trains Travel Pass, Cycle to Work scheme and Arriva Village retailer discount scheme.The Role:Working in our Tyne Yard depot and reporting into the Light Maintenance Team Leader, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance and overhaul of rail vehicles in line with laid down standards and procedures, supporting continuous improvement in quality, safety and reliability.This role operates on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, working 19:00 – 05:30, averaging 35 hours per week.Responsibilities:• Carry out work as allocated by the Team Leader within set timescales and to recognised standards.• Operate (drive) rail vehicles as required, within depot operating limits and in accordance with all relevant operating procedures.• Ensure that safety procedures and documentation are adhered to in accordance with VMI and local instructions.• Ensure that worksheets are signed off correctly and promptly on completion of work.• Ensure that appropriate Quality and Environmental procedures and work instructions are always followed.• Attend technical, quality, safety and general briefings, ensuring any actions raised are completed.• Maintain good housekeeping and a consistent standard of cleanliness throughout the depot.• Use all PPE in accordance with standards and local instructions.• Assist the Team Leader as required to ensure rolling stock availability and reliability targets are met.• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.What You Bring:• Qualifications – A minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), ideally with experience of rail traction and rolling stock.• Experience – Previous involvement and understanding of rail vehicle maintenance activities.• Knowledge – A good understanding of depot operations with the ability to interpret engineering drawings.• Engineering – A sound understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.Ready to start your next journey?If you’re passionate about making a difference and supporting Arriva TrainCare, we’d love to hear from you.
