Job summary

ARLA is seeking a Shift Engineer at Stourton Dairy in Leeds to provide maintenance and breakdown support across a 24/7 site. You will keep filling lines, chillers and conveyors running and drive continuous improvement, working within a skilled engineering team on cutting-edge equipment.

The role requires time-served or apprentice-trained engineering with NVQ Level 3/ONC/HNC or higher, strong RCA and fault-finding skills, and experience in FMCG manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Strong problem‑solving skills essential for rapid fault finding and RCA.
• Time-served or apprentice-trained engineering background required (NVQ Level 3/ONC/HNC or above).
• Experience in FMCG, food, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining and fault-finding on CIP systems, pasteurisers, separators, homogenisers and associated equipment.
• Supporting pumps, valves, flowmeters, heat exchangers and automated control systems.
• Delivering rapid breakdown response to minimise downtime across processing, storage and filling operations.
• Champion health and safety standards and participate in risk assessments.
• Support site projects and contribute to performance improvements.

Your work will keep our filling lines, chilling systems, and conveyors running efficiently while driving continuous improvement.

• Maintaining and fault-finding on CIP systems, pasteurisers, separators, homogenisers, and associated process equipment
• Supporting the performance of pumps, valves, flowmeters, heat exchangers, and automated control systems
• Delivering rapid breakdown response to minimise downtime across processing, storage, and filling operations
• Champion health and safety standards and participate in risk assessments
• Support site projects and contribute to performance improvements

This role sits within our Engineering team at Stourton Dairy and follows a 12 hour, 2 days, 2 nights 4 off shift pattern. You'll bring experience from FMCG, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments, along with a time-served or apprentice-trained engineering background at NVQ Level 3/ONC, HNC or above. Strong problem‑solving skills are essential, particularly when it comes to RCA and fault‑finding, and you'll be confident using systems such as SAP PM or similar CMMS tools, as well as Microsoft Office. Thriving in this role also means being able to work at pace, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively across teams.
