Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a multi-skilled shift engineer (electrically biased) to join our production team at a major UK conversion plant. The role covers reactive and preventative maintenance across electrical and mechanical systems, on a continental shift pattern including days and nights.

You will diagnose faults, install and repair equipment, and contribute to safety and KPI improvements in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of BTEC Level 3 in Engineering field, Engineering Apprentice, HNC or equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrable Electrical / Mechanical installation experience
  • Capable of using PLC I/O as a diagnostic tool
  • Familiar with current Legislation & European Directives as applicable to this role
  • Previous Engineering experience ideally from an FMCG environment, within a production or service industry - Print experience beneficial
  • Self-motivator who is calm under pressure
  • Able to prioritise between preventative, predictive and reactive work tasks and work with a logical approach to problem solving
  • Knows own limitations and asks for support from colleagues to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner
  • Works in a methodical way, ensuring care and attention to detail in all tasks
  • Proactive Team player but capable of working on own initiative

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering supportfor all Reactive and Preventative Maintenance requirements
  • Identify necessary parts and equipment required for repairs and improvements, and book out stored items correctly to help with stock level controls
  • Carry out both electrical and mechanical installations and repairs within skill set and scope of ability
  • Make rational and informed decisions to address breakdowns and complete individual projects
  • Complete all maintenance activities in a timely manner and to the required standard, always ensuring safe working methods
  • Contribute to, and close out all relevant Engineering KPIs
  • Ensure a robust and clearly communicated safe system of work is risk assessed and properly applied for all activities undertaken
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team, with Engineering, Manufacturing, H&S and all other required departments.

The Role Purpose

Additional Proactive Multi-Skilled Shift Engineers (Electrically Biased) are required to join an expanding team, to provide a dedicated and timely response to equipment breakdowns,preventative maintenance plans and improvement tasks, across all areas of production and shifts. You will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator and have both a can-do attitude, and a continuous improvement mindset.

These rolesinvolve both mechanical and electrical work and we are interested in candidates with skills biased in Electrical engineering fields, with proven skills, knowledge and experience in Mechanical engineering, to enable them to work as a hybrid engineer.


Location & Hours

Our Shift Engineers work a continental shift pattern (mix of days & nights, with 15 days off at the end of the rotation) at our industry leading conversion plant on junction 29a of the M1.
