Job summary

INSPIRED Pet Nutrition in Crick is seeking a Shift Engineer to help deliver the engineering strategy and safely maintain asset availability at the lowest economical cost.

You will work with a skilled team to maximise equipment reliability, support continuous improvement and ensure safe operation of manufacturing assets.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Electrical apprenticeship, HNC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Time-served Electrical Engineer or Multi-Skilled Engineer with a strong electrical bias.
  • Experience in an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong fault-finding capability across electrical, mechanical and control systems.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools.
  • Understanding of reliability improvement methodologies including RCM, FMECA, TPM, CBM or equivalent.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • NEBOSH, HACCP and Legionella awareness qualifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Safely maintain asset availability and reliability in line with Crick Engineering Strategy while delivering maintenance activities at the lowest economical cost.
  • Carry out planned, predictive and corrective maintenance activities to maximise equipment uptime and support operational performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical and controls-related faults in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities to identify recurring failures and drive sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase equipment performance, reduce maintenance costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in compliance with all safety, food safety and engineering standards.
  • Maintain accurate records within the CMMS and utilise data to drive proactive maintenance improvements.
  • Manage and review critical spare parts requirements to ensure optimum availability whilst controlling inventory costs.

Job description

As a Shift Engineer at our Crick site, you will play a key role in delivering our engineering strategy of safely maintaining asset availability at the lowest economical cost through people, plant and processes.

Working as part of a highly skilled engineering team, you will be responsible for maximising equipment reliability, improving asset performance, and supporting continuous improvement activities across the site. You will combine proactive maintenance, fault finding, root cause analysis and operational support to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our manufacturing assets.

This role offers a regional market-leading salary in excess of £64,000 per annum , enhanced holiday entitlement, and premium overtime rates, recognising the critical contribution our engineers make to site performance.

In addition, every engineer receives a company-funded Engineering Development Plan , tailored to individual needs and career aspirations, covering mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines through a combination of internal support and specialist external training providers.

Shift Pattern:

This role operates on a rotating continental shift pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off, followed by 4 nights on, 4 days off , working 12-hour shifts . The pattern provides regular extended rest periods whilst ensuring engineering support is available around the clock to maintain safe and efficient manufacturing operations.

Engineers will work closely with Production and Operations teams during both day and night shifts, responding to equipment issues, delivering planned maintenance activities, and supporting continuous improvement across the site. This shift pattern offers excellent work-life balance through predictable scheduling and frequent blocks of time off.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely maintain asset availability and reliability in line with the Crick Engineering Strategy whilst delivering maintenance activities at the lowest economical cost.

  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in compliance with all safety, food safety and engineering standards.

  • Champion engineering best practice, behavioural safety and continuous learning across the site.
  • Support site sustainability, energy reduction and environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in daily, weekly and monthly performance reviews to drive improvements in safety, reliability, cost and performance.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Recognised Electrical apprenticeship, HNC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Time‑served Electrical Engineer or Multi‑Skilled Engineer with a strong electrical bias.
  • Demonstrable experience within an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
