Job summary

The Barbican is seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join the engineering team at a landmark, high-spec commercial building in Bishopsgate. The role focuses on delivering robust building services maintenance and technical support while upholding the highest standards of safety and client service.

You will perform planned preventative maintenance, respond to alarms, and assist senior engineers as you develop toward a Senior Shift Engineer position in a dynamic, professional environment.

Qualifications

• Electrical, mechanical, or building services background required.
• Level 3 engineering qualification preferred.
• Experience in commercial building maintenance.
• Strong understanding of PPM and reactive maintenance.
• Good electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability.
• Experience with HVAC and building services plant.
• HV or LV experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working within a process-driven environment.
• Ambitious and interested in further technical development.
• Able to work a continental shift pattern covering days and nights.

Responsibilities

• Communicate professionally with clients and building occupants.
• Support the wider engineering team across the shift.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their technical ability while working within a modern, high-spec commercial environment.

The building is maintained to an exceptionally high engineering standard, with a strong focus on technical procedures, compliance, resilience and customer service. There is also a clear progression opportunity for the successful engineer to develop towards a Senior Shift Engineer position.

Progression

This position has been designed as a genuine development opportunity. The successful engineer will gain exposure to a technically demanding environment and have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of HV/LV systems, switching procedures and wider engineering responsibilities, with the longer-term aim of progressing into a Senior Shift Engineer position.
