Job summary

ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY is seeking a Shift Analytical Chemist in the South Yorkshire area. The role involves rotating shifts (4 on, including two days and two nights, with 4 off) and commuting from Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster or nearby areas. Salary ranges £30,000–£37,000 including shift allowance.

This permanent position welcomes graduates and experienced chemists. Responsibilities include sample preparation, analytical testing, and reporting results while maintaining safety and quality

Qualifications

• HNC or equivalent in Chemistry, Metallurgy or Materials Engineering is required.
• Experience with sample preparation for metals and materials.
• Experience using XRF or ICP-OES is beneficial.
• Must have UK work rights and be able to travel/relocate within South Yorkshire.
• Full right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Conduct sample preparation and analytical testing to meet internal/external deadlines.
• Operate safely and in compliance with Health, Safety, ISO and Quality standards.
• Report test results, updates, complaints and safety concerns to Shift Leaders as required.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safe working areas during shifts.
• Support continuous shift operations through rota coverage and waste minimisation.

Role Description

• Conducting sample preparation and performing analytical testing to meet internal and external customer requirements and deadlines
• Operating safely and compliantly in line with Health, Safety, Environmental, ISO and Quality standards
• Reporting test results, job updates, complaints and safety concerns to Shift Leaders as required
• Maintaining laboratory cleanliness, housekeeping standards and safe working areas throughout each shift
• Supporting continuous shift operations through rota working, absence cover and minimising waste generation
